Aha. Having referred to them in the previous post,  I realise I haven't posted about these here. As usual, I haven't made as much in my week off as I would like. But I have made these two cute and useful things. My old little sock knitting bag was so worn out it was threatening to lose me needles. So I thought that japara might be just the trick for knitting bags. Japara is a very tightly woven cotton fabric. It is traditionally used for making things filled with feathers*, the tight weave helps stop the feathers escaping. I thought it would similarly help stop the escape of fine knitting needles. So far it's working. #1 has been in use for a few days and no hint of any escapees yet.

.    .

#1 has embroidery by my dear late grandma and tea dyed cotton lace.
#2 has two kinds of vintage ribbon
both have hand made twist cord drawstrings in coordinating colours.

*cushions, pillows, doonas, down jackets.

Japara also makes a reasonable raincoat. I've seen written references to "my japara" in a similar way that we might say "my goretex".

Ironing japara is strange, especially when I keep forgetting that a shot of steam doesn't go through it like most fabric, but is pushed back by the tight weave and the iron does a hovercraft impersonation :-)
