I wasn't exactly thrown, but I hadn't made a garment since before easter and I like to think of myself as a dressmaker. So yesterday, most everything got put aside and I cut this out. It's the skirt I've wanted for a few years, and really wanted when I was packing for that work trip a month ago. Now it's not only cut but made! and has been taken on it's maiden outing even.

I had fun with it. I remembered most of the little tips I'd forgotten on recent skirt makings, eg)
-think about where one wants seams and remember to add the allowances! (my pattern is just a block so this needs doing)
-tape the waistline

I did forget to
-tape the tops of the pockets so they don't stretch out of shape(this is stretch denim)
-interface the zipper flap

I will say that doing a jeans zipper insert on a side seam is more complicated than the standard fly position- but is more flattering to those of us with tummies. Add in the extra complication of a faced basque across the zip length and no waistband....and I can say I'm pretty proud I figured out how to make it work!

I'd like to say this makes for a length of fabric used up from stash- except it's such a recent purchase that it didn't make it into the cupboard. Not sure that counts as stash?
