From Sally Wise again. "Pickled Zucchini slices". With a few changes. Capsicum and onion replaced by Cauliflower and carrot (yeh I know they are not very similar, but still veg, not allium or new world, let's not talk about the orangeness).  Curry powder replaced by another teaspoon of mustard seed, crushed. There is more sugar in the recipe than I expected, but then I've not pickled anything before this weekend. This was really easy, hope it's edible too.

Or perhaps "Sweet and Sour Pears"
the recipe is from "A Year in a Bottle" by Sally Wise.
first you infuse vinegar with spices. Then you mix the spiced vinegar with sugar, lemon and orange. Then poach the pears in that mixture. Pop the pears in bottles, boil down the syrup for 10min, pour over the pears and cap. Bottle any remaining syrup.

What she doesn't say but should- is to make sure you eat some of the sticky, pear flavoured, sweet and sour toffeeish substance left behind in the pan. YUM.

.

If it all turns out good, i can make another lot  later as I only used half the spiced vinegar.
